During the autumn and winter of 2007 the Events Development Fund, in conjunction with the new University of Cumbria, ran an intensive training programme in which a small group participants, lead by marketing experts Andrew and Helen Palmer, wrote (or revised) their festival's marketing strategy. |
Some of you may have met Andrew through the Money, Media and Marketing course we ran a few years ago or at the Information Day in November 2006.
This was an innovative project in many ways. It was much more intensive than many 'marketing courses' offered free of charge to participants and involved a great deal of input on the part of the participants who were, effectively writing their own marketing plan under guidance from Andrew and Helen. Since it was administrated through the University of Cumbria, the course also had access to the latest distance learning technology which was designed cut down the amount of travel time for participants and enable them to fit the study around their other commitments. There are elements of this course that really worked well and others which we will need to revise should we decide to run the course again.

Subjects for future intensive courses include securing sponsorship, management training and audience development. Are there any more courses that you think we should run for events and festivals?
