Cumbria is the happening place to be…

You know it, I know it … that Cumbria plays host to a fantastic wealth of Events & Festivals.

Cumbria Vision knows this too and have to date supported the county’s Events & Festival sector through grants to make events happen and develop further. And CV knows that Cumbria’s Events & Festivals are worth shouting about to and so have commissioned Cumbria Tourism to do the shouting.

For the past two years, Cumbria Tourism has, on behalf of Cumbria Vision, produced a handy and colourful pocket-sized Events Guide, that gets the message out to visitors, potential visitors and locals, that our county has many great festivals and events, well worth travelling and staying for.

The 2007 guide features over 135 events; from new and contemporary events such as the Keswick Mountain Festival and the Woman’s Arts International Festival, to classic Cumbrian showcases such as Lowther Horse Driving Trials and our many agricultural shows. It has a 300,000 print run with the majority of these guides being distributed across the north of England well before the summer ends. In addition, the printed guide is backed by an online guide hosted on www.golakes.co.uk, which can feature up to 1,000 events at peak periods. Events are featured online and in print at no charge to you organisers. Events & Festivals feature heavily in other marketing activity undertaken by Cumbria Tourism; excellent coverage in the annual Holiday Guide with it’s print run of 250,000; e-newsletters sent to over 70,000 each month; other niche websites focusing on B2B and outdoor activities; and PR activity targeting national, regional and local media. CT has also been commissioning photography at key events over the past two years and these images are available from www.cumbriaphoto.co.uk, free of charge. We have even experienced the traumas of event organising, having put on Cumbria Bike Fest in May this year. So we know what it’s like – the sweat, the blood, the tears..!

CT is hopeful that this will continue into next year and we look forward to shouting about your Event & Festival soon! If you are organising an Event or Festival for 2008, please contact Alex McCoskrie on amccoskrie@cumbriatourism.org to get involved.
