Is your event Family Friendly?
Many events and festivals promise a great family day out and indeed have lots to offer visitors of all ages.
However many feel that they could do more to attract family groups but are not sure of the best strategy to adopt. |
With families the attraction of an event lies not only in the things to see and do but also the facilities on offer to cater for families and the way that you design and advertise your event in the first place.
Arts Council England has produced a Family Friendly Toolkit and information about creating a family friendly policy. Although it makes lots of mention of Arts organisations and uses arts organisations as examples, I think that this would be a useful starting point for an event or festival of any type wanting to develop their family audience.
In the same way as the FAST toolkit (available on this website in ‘Publications’) the Family Friendly Toolkit poses a series of questions which help you analyse what you are currently doing and how to improve it if you need to.
